Matt was honored with the inaugural Outstanding Alumni Award from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Connecticut

Nearly 30 years after receiving his BS in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Matt returned to his alma mater, the University of Connecticut, to deliver a seminar on Synthetic Glycobiology. During the visit, he was honored with the inaugural Outstanding Alumni Award, which was given to him by department chair Professor Ranjan Srivastava. Ranjan is not only the chair of the department but was a lab mate and friend of Matt's at the University of Maryland, where the two of them earned their PhDs in Chemical Engineering working in the lab of Professor Bill Bentley. The award is planned to be given annually to an outstanding alumnus, alternating between academic and industrial recipients.
